The innocent trout image is used as a metaphor for a deeper meaning of life and death. The microcosm of the trout being food to man or the ecosystem it lives in, symbolism of fire as a catalyst for both life and death, and the complex collage of black and white patterns is an abstract representation of light and dark/life and death. All of these thoughts together create a lighthearted image with a much more complex feeling that everyone interprets the same, but different.
